BADLANDS
In September, 1993 we took our first trip to
Dinosaur Provincial Park in the
Alberta badlands. Awed by the peculiar fantasy like landscape I began
to
incubate
ideas for a collection of paintings. Bob and Anne Wahlund
of New Image
Gallery,
Calgary, were most enthusiastic about and playful
with the ALICE in BADLAND
solo exhibition that they hosted in 1994.
With more to express about the Alberta badlands I approached the
Royal Tyrrell Museum in Drumheller. A solo
show, SPIRIT of the BADLANDS,
was presented at the Museum in a stunning, dramatic setting from
January 19th to February 25th, 1996.

If you look closely you will see that the museum's designer actually painted
me under the exhibition title. Hat on head, I am seated on the
ground,
painting a watercolour in my lap.

THE BADLANDS
The hush of the Alberta prairie is suddenly
interrupted by mighty, silent yawns. Ancient rivers have etched
great chasms, revealing positively delicious folds of colour and
form. The exposed earth has been kissed by the sun, shaped by
winds and ravaged by storms. Compelled to capture the evocative
spirit of the badlands I have created this series of paintings. I
invite you to deliberate on them to become, as I have, fascinated with the
wonder of geological history.
